Location

Lode is situated approximately 7 miles (11.27 kilometres) north-east from Cambridge and 9 miles (14.48 kilometres) west of Newmarket.

Area Information

Lode also known as Lode with Longmeadow is located north of A14 and west of the A428 about 8 miles (12.87 kilometres) north-east of Cambridge. The term Lode refers to an artificial water channel used to drain The Fens, and is thought to be of Roman origin.

Children of the two villages attend the nearby Bottisham Community Primary School and Bottisham Village College.

Lode is the location of Anglesey Abbey which includes a country house, built on the remains of a priory, 98 acres of gardens and landscaped grounds and a working mill. Formerly it was the home of the Fairhaven family, who lived there for many years, but is now the property of the National Trust. 

Lode hosts an annual music festival at Sunnyridge Farm called Lodestar. First held in 2008 it features multiples musical genres across its three stages as well as comedy, theatre and circus acts.

Facilities

There are two local pubs in the villages, The Shed in Lode and the Black Horse Inn, in Long Meadow and a post office and shop, a church and village hall.
