Village Information
For a small village there is a lot of history in Ickleton, where there are records of continuous Anglo-Saxon settlement for at least 1,000 years. The village name is derived from Old English, meaning "Icel's farm" or "estate associated with a man named Icel".
In current times the village remains small but is ideally placed for the pretty market town of Saffron Walden and city of Cambridge.
Primary schooling is provided by Duxford Primary School which is rated good by Ofsted with secondary schooling at Sawston Village College, which also rated good.
The Ickleton Lion public house serves a selection of classic pub favourites as well as some signature dishes using locally sourced suppliers with a fabulous selection of real ales on tap.
Facilities
Amenities include a social club and the village hall, which is available for hire and used for workshops and courses. There is a recreation ground and village green which hosts both the children's and adult's cricket matches, a mini supermarket with post office counter, and a craft and interior shop.
